| Adaptive Optics |
![]() Adaptive optics are a special type of high-performance mirror. Its unique characteristics lie in the fact that the mirror surface is in fact a membrane, which can be precisely deformed through the application of pressure differentials on its rear plate. Such adaptive optical components are generally used to control accurately the beam radius (BRC = Beam Radius Control), or the automatic fine-tuning of the beam’s focal point (AFC = Auto Focus Control). In the majority of cases, copper or copper alloys are used to fabricate the mirror due to their exceptional heat dissipation properties. ··· More ··· These optics have a mirror surface, which depending on the construction, can be progressively varied between limits from concave (beam convergence) through planar to convex (beam divergence) by applying specific controlled pressures. The resulting deformational errors are incredibly small, and LT Ultra has set the acceptable tolerance levels at just ±0.0005 mm. All LT Ultra adaptive mirrors have an integrated water cooling system and very low absorption coatings for laser powers beyond the 5 kW range. These adaptive optical devices have been successfully integrated in a multitude of both 2D (flatbed equipment) and 3D laser machines by renowned global players of industrial laser equipment. Adaptive optical components from LT Ultra are recognizable by the term ‘ADOPTIC’. The most prolific variant has an elliptical mirrored membrane as it can be used to bend a beam by 90°. In their construction they are identical to the standard equal aperture planar mirrors from LT Ultra and so do not necessitate dedicated enclosures. Hence, retrofitting these devices is a simple affair that can be undertaken at any time and without having to alter the beam guidance system. Besides the elliptical variant, circular versions are also available based on the same mechanical construction. In practice, these tend to replace the concave spherical mirrors found in existing telescopic beam extenders that are mounted directly on the resonator, and are therefore ideally suited to perform the BRC function. LT Ultra provides financially desirable overhauling and retrofitting services for both its adaptive optic variants. Here the mirror membrane is renewed, but the rigid components are reused. The result is product that is absolutely identical in terms of performance and quality to a new product! Contact LT Ultra now for advice on the perfect adaptive optical solution. |
