Mirror surface coatings are required to increase both the surface reflectivity properties as well as act as a mechanical protection layer. LT Ultra has many kinds of functional surface coatings to meet a variety of demands whether for beam polarizing, boosting the material’s natural reflectivity values, or acting solely as a protection layer against mechanical damage from, for example, cleaning and polishing tasks. These coatings, particularly for the CO2 wavelength lasers, can only be produced using complicated technical procedures. For this reason, LT Ultra relies on its partners both nationally and internationally to coat its metal optic components to the highest level. The hard gold coating, for example, used on certain mirrors has to be applied using a plasma-supported vacuum metallization process which, compared with the more usual and conventional gold metallization processes, actually delivers superior hardness characteristics for more versatile cleaning resistance. In addition, this coating can be used as a true purely metallic layer in its own right for a variety of wavelengths including NdYAG and CO2. More unusual, application specific coatings, such as silver for UV-VIS-NIR are available on request. |
